Pigs, pigs and more pigs!
I'm back....
The CNY trip to KL was good with lots of food and the catch-ups with my cousins and relatives. It was not as demented as what I had initially expected but it was well coupled with the good food and good shows on TV (yes. Astro.) The food over here in Malaysia would make we Singaporeans feel that the food we have back home is as good as "rabbit food".
By the way, we also played around with firecrackers to usher in the Year of the Pig. That was illegal of course, as firecrackers are banned in Malaysia. They can't enforce the ban considering that many of the households that flout the law are often in 'ulu' locations far away from the city centre making it hard for the police to come by.
This photojournal does not intend to capture the typical CNY spirit. Instead, it intends to portray the many facades of the year of the Pig encased in my Fifth Aunt's house. You will see below the pictures the many pigs that liven up the atmosphere that makes one enjoys when every lunar new year starts. Enjoy.
The family members in my Fifth Aunt's house. The two large pigs symbolise my Fifth Aunt and Fifth Uncle-in-law. The remaining four pigs symbolises their children (or my cousins).
Time to fatten up with the home-cooked dishes! (Or in Chinese, known as "家传菜") As usual, the typical CNY greeting during the year of the pig is "祝你一个好肥年!" (Wishing you a FAT year!)
Two golden pigs adore a jade ornament. (If you were wondering, that girl in the picture is one of my cousins. She's a primary school teacher in downtown KL. I got some nice tips in handling the rowdy kids from her following my 'demented' experience as a relief teacher.)
Red-Flowered Pig. The face is apparently similar in looks to that of a panda.
This piggie is in my aunt's bedroom.
To quote my aunt, "真的是猪脸啦! 好可爱!"
This piggy-bank belongs to the same cousin of mine (that you saw in the earlier picture).
And that's all for now. A second part to this CNY feature is coming up soon which will feature the rest of the pictures that I've taken during this trip. Take care!

First of all I'd like to inform my readers that I've been
unfortunately too busy in various household stuff in preparation for the Lunar New Year. Yes, I actually intended to write a sequel to the earlier article to describe my 'demented' feelings that happened the fast few weeks but......
I'm spending my
CNY again in KL with my maternal relatives and I'm leaving tomorrow morning! At this hour my mum and I have barely finished with cleaning up and my mother is struggling against time to pack up the travel stuff. The feeling of racing
against time to settle
everything is very demoralising, especially when one has a father who gets engrossed with the idiot box, no different from a rotting vegetable. (Did I forget to throw it away?) (Anyway at least I do not have to deal with my paternal 'demented' relatives.) In addition, my over-allergy to dust further hampers my efforts to rush the cleaning process.
It's going to be a five-day trip and I will only return on the third day of
CNY, which is next Tuesday, 20
th February. I seriously do not know what's going to happen over there given dry and unbearable weather conditions on both sides of the Causeway, and
Jalan Petaling is falling' silent over copyright disputes with the police with regards to the broadcasting of festive songs. Nevertheless it'll still be a good celebration as it's time to fatten up (it's the Year of the Pig anyway) with lots of goodies and unique home-cooked dishes!
Well, I'd like to end this post with some wishes for all. May I wish all my readers a really fat New Year! May you grow rich and fat in all ways that you wish to, such as money, wisdom, love and so on! The pig is always around to spur you ahead in this upcoming year!
